Seattle Community Open Band Contra Dance
Summer 2026:
WE JUST ADDED A SECOND DANCE BEFORE SUMMER ENDS!
Monday August 31st, 6pm til dark
(come earlier to picnic, socialize or jam!)
past dances:
Monday July 27, 7pm til dark, with Caitlin Bannack organizing callers – thanks for the great turnout and joyful dancing!
Let’s celebrate the summer with outdoor dances! These dances pretty much run themselves, though some of us have been prime instigators in past years.
Open to all – come dance, play, take a turn calling..
We choose the place on the lawn after arrival – usually one of the two triangle shaped bits of lawn between the brick restroom building and the lake – on the north side of Green Lake, just east of the wading pool. Closest cross streets are Wallingford Ave N. and East Green Lake Dr N
We plan to start about 6 pm for the August 31st dance, but feel free to come earlier and picnic.
Open sign-up for callers, with a small battery operated system provided. If you want to call, bring a card or two and check in with Koran Wake to set up your turn.
Musicians: Tune selection will be by consensus, though leadership roles may surface by the more experienced. If there are contra dance tunes you want to be played that others will know, bring your suggestions. Two tune sets work best.
Bring your own chair if you want one!
Everyone is welcome to come dance, play in the band, or take a turn calling a dance! (or just listen, or do everything!)
Rain will cancel or postpone the dance – check the Facebook page for the latest info. We will try to update this page as well.
